Why it matters

When the ball goes to the right side, the bag at 2nd changes hands. Now the shortstop covers it and makes the turn. Young shortstops are used to fielding, not covering, and arrive late. The pitcher has a job too, breaking toward 1st on every ball hit to that side.

What the runners do

  • Runner on 1st (forced). Forced out at 2nd.
  • Batter. Out at 1st to complete the double play.

This is the baseball field. In the app a fastpitch softball team sees every play on its own field, with its own rules.
