Ground Ball to Short, Runner on 1st
The call: Double play: shortstop to second baseman to first baseman.
All nine jobs
Tap a player to follow that one job on the field.
Why it matters
This is the double play every team wants and most young teams give away. The usual mistake is at 2nd. The second baseman watches the ball instead of running to the bag, so the shortstop has nobody to throw to. The other mistake is in the outfield. All three players have a throw to get behind, and they stand still instead.
What the runners do
- Runner on 1st (forced). Forced out at 2nd.
- Batter. Out at 1st to complete the double play.
This is the baseball field. In the app a fastpitch softball team sees every play on its own field, with its own rules.
