Infield In, Ground Ball to Short, Runner on 3rd
The call: Infield in: throw home (shortstop to catcher).
All nine jobs
Tap a player to follow that one job on the field.
Why it matters
The infield plays in to cut down the run at the plate, so the throw goes home, not to 1st. Players forget that the moment they field it, because 1st is the throw they make all day. The pitcher has to get behind home plate, and the outfield moves in behind every base.
What the runners do
- Runner on 3rd. Breaks for home on contact. With the infield in, the throw home gets the runner.
- Batter. Reaches 1st on a fielder's choice; the defense picked the out at home instead.
This is the baseball field. In the app a fastpitch softball team sees every play on its own field, with its own rules.
