Rundown Between 1st and 2nd
The call: Rundown: chase the runner back to 1st, one throw, tag (shortstop to first baseman).
All nine jobs
Tap a player to follow that one job on the field.
Why it matters
A good rundown is one throw. Run hard at the runner with the ball held up. Chase the runner back toward the base they came from. Throw once, when the receiver calls for it. Every extra throw is a chance to drop the ball. That is why each base has a second player lined up behind it.
What the runners do
- Runner on 1st. Caught between 1st and 2nd, chased back toward 1st and tagged out.
- Batter. Waits in the box; there's no pitch on this play.
This is the baseball field. In the app a fastpitch softball team sees every play on its own field, with its own rules.
