Bunt Down the 1st-Base Line, Runner on 1st
The call: Sacrifice bunt: first baseman to the second baseman covering 1st.
All nine jobs
Tap a player to follow that one job on the field.
Why it matters
The first baseman fields the bunt and can't also be on the bag. The second baseman sprints over to take the throw. It is a short throw with a runner in the way, and it goes wrong more often than long ones. Take the sure out at 1st: the offense is giving it away.
What the runners do
- Runner on 1st (forced). Breaks for 2nd once the bunt is down; that's the sacrifice.
- Batter. Out at 1st: gives up an out to move the runners up (a sacrifice).
