Bunt Down the 3rd-Base Line, Runner on 1st
The call: Sacrifice bunt: third baseman to the second baseman covering 1st.
All nine jobs
Tap a player to follow that one job on the field.
Why it matters
The third baseman charges, so somebody else has to take 3rd base: the catcher does, and the pitcher covers home. The whole infield moves one seat over, and the second baseman takes the throw at 1st. A team that hasn't practiced the rotation throws the ball to a base with nobody on it.
What the runners do
- Runner on 1st (forced). Breaks for 2nd once the bunt is down; that's the sacrifice.
- Batter. Out at 1st: gives up an out to move the runners up (a sacrifice).
